Wii gets Netflix, Nintendo boss says standard-def just fine

Finally, wii is going to get Netflix. Of course I’m sure it can’t stream HD. But that’s two less cords to run to the TV for online Netflix movies.

August Celebrations – by Jackie
// September 1st, 2009 // No Comments » // chicago, Family, photos
Cory and I had a very busy (but awesome) month in August. He’s been working nearly every day. When I’m not at work I’m in the apartment doing some health & beauty freelance writing for HowStuffWorks.com. (It doesn’t get much more exciting than organic moisturizing body washes…)
We’ve still managed to fit in quite a few celebrations lately. In mid-August, we celebrated two years of dating (which FLEW BY) by going to Opera, our favorite overly priced Chinese-French fusion restaurant in the South Loop. We can only afford to eat there once a year, but man is it worth it! The following weekend I went home to celebrate my nephew’s second birthday (yes, he was born right after Cory and I met in 2007…two boys who changed my single, I’m-the-baby-of-the-family world dropped in and shook things up all in the same month). I got to spend a little auntie time with Camden the day before his birthday and we made a craft project that is supposed to look like a birthday cake. I put some construction paper around a tin can and painted some cardboard candles. Then Camden added some candle stickers and helped me string up “o’s” as he calls Cheerios.
This is so silly but what sticks out from that weekend was a moment when Greg and I were outside playing tee ball with Cam. He hit the ball SO FAR (like way farther than me and he’s only 2). And I yelled, “HEY! How’d you DO that?!” For the next two days, in the most perfectly clear adult-like voice he kept saying “HEY! How’d you DO that?!” Everything else was like, “Noooo” or “OK” but for whatever reason he chose that phrase to repeat over and over.
The day after Cam’s birthday I went to a bridal shower for a wedding I’m in this fall. And pretty soon bada bing it’s September. More news to come soon! Hope all of you are doing well (and that we get to see you soon).

XC Alumni Run (by Jackie)
// August 18th, 2009 // No Comments » // Family, photos, sports
My family has been quite busy the last couple of weeks. Mom visited us a few weeks ago. We had some ridiculously delicious sandwiches at Bar Louie’s, played a LOT of Wii (she’s really good and her Mii looks SO much like her), and bummed around the conservatory. Check out the photos by clicking this sentence.
Two weekends ago I was back in Indiana to help out at the auction of my grandparents’ home. Nice to see some extended family although it was a truly exhausting day.
Then this past weekend I went home again for a Hebron HS cross country alumni race. My dad coached the HS XC team for 35 years…people around Northwest Indiana know him as “Coach.” I grew up watching him washing uniforms in our washing machine, parking the team bus in front of our house to clean it out, talking to the newspapers about athletics. Kids who ran for him back in the 70s still come back to our house to catch up with Coach. In the late 80s and early 90s I would go to practices with him, trying to get my elementary legs to keep up with the high school girls (hey, even if I couldn’t keep up, my pigtails were still cute!). Until he injured his knee, dad ran 10 miles a day every day that I’ve been alive (no seriously, I only saw him take like 2 days off my whole life). The town ended up nominating him to run with the Olympic torch in 1996, which he did. And then I ran for his team in high school – we were his first girls team to make it to semi-state. Life has always kind of been about cross country around our house. So it was really good to go to the alumni run and see all these old guys from the 70s, my sister’s friends from the 90s – some of my best friends came from my XC team. Anyway, mom was an awesome photographer and took tons of great pix at the race. My best high school buddy (and prom date both years) Scotty won the race; my good friend Laura won for the girls; I came in 6th…not bad considering it was hotter than an oven that morning. Check out the pix in this album:
